Disney+ Launch Date, Price & Content

Today Disney gave a first look at their new streaming service Disney+

Launching in November 2019 in North America first with a cost of $6.00 a month or $69.99 for the year. The service will be available on a multitude of devices with the obvious mobile app and confirmation of Playstation 4 and roku devices coming straight away. You will be able to download for offline viewing whilst you’re an active subscriber.
Additional looks at the service and content will come throughout the year at Star Wars Celebration, Comic-Con and D23 Expo.

The interface is very reminicent of Disney Life, the current streaming offering in the UK and seems very straightforward.

TV and Documentary

Disney will be tapping into it’s vast resources to populate Disney+ with TV shows, and is quoted as offering 7500 episodes of various TV shows to watch.
Some of the highlights include the first 30 seasons of The Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle, Goof Troop, Mickey Mouse Shorts, Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Star Wars Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, Ducktales (both original and 2016 series) and many more from Disney Channels, 20th Century Fox and 250 hours of National Geographic content.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series – On Launch
10-episode scripted series will be set at the real-life East High (where the original movie was filmed) and follow students to their opening night of their production of High School Musical.

Encore! – On Launch
Kristen Bell brings together former castmates of a high school musical and tasks them with recreating their original performances. With broadway legends coming in as musical guests along the way, we see them performing such musicals as Sound of Music , Annie and Beauty & the Beast.

The Mandalorian – On Launch
8 Episode Series, first ever live action star wars series, helmed by John Favreau. Set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens we follow a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars ( Season 7) – 2020
12 all-new episodes continue the story arc fo the beloved series with all original characters and actors returning.

Cassian Andor Prequel Series – 2021
Rogue One spin off series will see Diego Luna (Cassian) and Alan Tudyk (K2-O) returning

WandaVision – 2021
Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff) and Paul Bettany (Vision) reprise their roles in this MCU tie-in series

Loki – 2021
Tom Hiddleston returning in the MCU tie-in series about everyone’s favourite God of Mischief

Falcon & Winter Solder – 2020
Anthony Mackie (Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) reprise their roles in this MCU tie-in

Marvel’s What If…? – 2020
Animated series based on the comics of the same name, the first episode Sees Peggy Carter takign the Super Serum to become Captain America whilst Steve Rodgers suits up in a Howard Stark armoured suit., most of original film cast will voice the animated characters, As yet it’s unconfirmed what the other episodes will be.

Forky Asks a Question – On Launch
10 shorts will see the Toy Story 4 character trying to cover topics such as What is Love? What is Time? and What is Cheese?

SparkShorts – On Launch
Pixar Animation Studios short film series designed to discover new storytellers

Monster’s World – 2020
In this new series John Goodman (Sully) and Billy Crystal (Mike) will be returning along with many of the original films voice cast. Set six months after the events of Monsters Inc. we follow a new mechanic working as part of the facilities team dreaming of working his way up to the Laugh Floor.

Diary of a Female President Year One – 2020
Told from the narration of her diary, the series follows a Cuban-American 12-year-old girl as she navigates the ups and downs of middle school and her journey to becoming the future president of the United States.

The World According to Jeff Goldblum – On Launch
Jeff will be revealing a world of astonishing connections in seemingly familiar objects.

Magic of the Animal Kingdom – 2020
Documentary series where we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to take care of the wildlife at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Epcot’s SeaBase aquarium

The Imagineering Story – TBA
Long awaited documentary is now a series. Created bu LEslie Iwerks, ther series takes an exclusive behind the scenes look at how the multiple Disney Theme Parks and it’s iconic attractions are created.

Ink & Paint – 2021
A documentary series of 8 episodes looking at many of the women who made classic Disney animations possible, even though at the time they were underappreciated and overlooked.

Marvel’s Hero Project – On Launch
The show reveals the remarkable, positive change several young heroes are making in their own communities. These kids have dedicated their lives to selfless acts of bravery and kindness, and now, Marvel celebrates them as the true Super Heroes they are.

Be Our Chef – 2020
This series invites families from diverse backgrounds to join a Disney-inspired cooking competition at Walt Disney World that is positive and playful in tone. In each episode, two families will participate in a themed challenge based on their family traditions and the magic of Disney. The overall winner will see their creation sold in Walt Disney World.

Cinema Relics: Iconic Art of the Movies – 2020
A look at the props and costumes and people who made such classic films as Pirates of the Caribbean, Tron, Who Framed Roger Rabbit and the Muppet Movie.
